About the Role
MWH is currently seeking a Director of Commissioning & Startup - East. This position will manage MWH's C&SU East operations which includes direct supervisory responsibility over staff in several locations in the U.S. The Director will be involved in relationship management with a variety of internal partners, our teaming partners from the A&E Industry, as well as supporting Business Development. This position will report out of Tampa, FL.
As part of the Commissioning and Startup team, the Director will assist in the commissioning and startup of water and wastewater treatment plants and future municipal projects which will allow the company to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts.
Essential Functions
- Manage and/or manage others in the execution of commissioning and startup of a water or wastewater plant.
- Maintain Health and Safety levels during the commissioning activities.
- Develop the commissioning and startup strategy for construction and commissioning sequencing.
- Support the project team to read/interpret specifications for commissioning approach.
- Develop commissioning and startup schedule and budget for the respective project.
- Manage the development of written procedures for testing, cleaning and initial startup of major plant equipment and systems.
- Lead the development of commissioning and startup plans, both dry and wet testing flow charts.
- Manage client/vendor/subcontractor coordination for the startup of completed systems. Provide training program and materials for process plant equipment.
- Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
- Assist in resource planning at project level.
- Recruit, train, and monitor MWHC, SCI, MCC field engineers supporting our field operations.
- Manage documentation of the commissioning process, including commissioning data and as built documentation, input to O&Ms and feedback to the design disciplines.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Recognize the importance of satisfying the customer as the key to achieving other objectives.
- Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.
- Support BD and Sales as needed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Science, or other similar field of study.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in commissioning & start-up and plant operations.
- Minimum 4 years of management experience.
- Experience in the water/wastewater industry (or) applicable industrial construction responsibilities.
- Preference will be given to candidates with operations and maintenance and/or commissioning and startup background.
- Familiar with asset management programs (i.e Maximo) for vertical assets.
- Proficient in interpreting and understand technical manuals, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Understanding of methods and techniques of maintaining and repairing wastewater plant equipment, machinery and related facilities.
- Experience with operations and maintenance programs at water or wastewater facilities.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Proficient with Adobe and Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficient with use of SharePoint document management.
- The ability to travel, including internationally, is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional registration (PE) certification. Preferred multi-state registration or ability to get registered in the states where MWH works.
- Water and/or Wastewater operator's license and certifications a plus.
