Overview
VTG is seeking a User Interface (UI) / User Experience (UX) Software Engineer to assist in designing, developing, and implementing graphical user interfaces (GUIs). The individual will work with a small team based out of Manassas, VA, but will also be responsible for collaborating with a larger community of organizations and government representatives from across the country. The individual will brief designs to the personnel who will be operating the systems and update based on their input. This position is primarily on site but does allow for some hybrid work. This position is located in Manassas, VA. This position is a hybrid position with remote work options and flexible schedules.
What will you do?
The candidate will help design, prototype, and develop user interfaces for vehicle control software. The selected candidate will be the primary UX engineer on our team and will lead updating existing GUIs and designing new GUIs. This candidate will combine their experience with human factors engineering with the program requirements and naval interface design standards. Additional work will include organizing and leading focus groups to elicit operator feedback through both the design phase and through the later agile development cycle and working with the rest of the team to implement design changes as necessary.
- Design and develop intuitive, user-friendly GUIs for vehicles.
- Gather operator feedback and conduct iterative testing to ensure optimal interface design and usability.
- Collaborate with back-end engineers, operators, and government representatives to understand user needs and operational constraints and requirements.
- Develop wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to communicate design concepts.
- Implement front-end interfaces using Qt.
- Optimize UI performance and responsiveness for embedded and real-time applications.
- Work with backend developers to integrate UI with real-time data visualization and control systems.
- Maintain and refine design systems, style guides, and UI components for consistency.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, UI/UX best practices, and human-machine interface (HMI) trends.
Do you have what it takes?
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or similar.
- 2+ years' experience in UI/UX design and development (or similar role).
- Strong experience with front-end development using frameworks like Qt, React, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of JavaScript for building interactive interfaces.
- Strong understanding of human-machine interface (HMI) principles and usability testing methodologies.
- Familiar with either ANSI/ISA-101.01-2015 or MIL-STD-1472H design standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Initiative, innovation, and resourcefulness.
- US Citizen with current SECRET Clearance or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
- Successful completion of background check.
Desired Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
- Prior experience with Naval operational displays.
- Experience with real-time data visualization and designing for mission-critical applications.
- Experience with designing UIs in accordance with MIL-STD-1472H
- Proficiency in other UI/UX design tools.
- Additional UI/UX certs or experience.
