Mott MacDonald is looking for professionals to join our ever-expanding Transportation team in the Washington metropolitan area. We are currently looking for a full-time site Office Engineer with experience in rail transportation and infrastructure industry. The successful candidate is required to have a strong understanding of the construction industry and experience working on public agency projects.

The Office Engineer (OE) is responsible for the administrative and technical support activities on all program procurement activities. Specifically, the OE manages varied project administrative functions for maintaining contract records, plans and specifications, and related engineering and administrative records and providing overall support to the Project Manager's project implementation team.

The OE would ordinarily be responsible for maintaining full familiarity with plans, specifications, construction schedules, and contractor's plans on assigned contracts, Project Implementation Manual and, current safety regulations relative to assigned projects in order to be knowledgeable of the contractor's obligations and the Project Manager's responsibilities with respect thereto. The OE shall supervise subordinates in disseminating such information to the office and field staff as required to keep all pertinent Authority personnel accurately informed of relevant matters. The OE would work within the Project Manager's prescribed guidelines and procedures and serve under the direction of the Project Manager. The OE position requires very strong written and verbal communication skills.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Interpret construction documents to certify that work is performed in accordance with approved plans
  • Administer the submittal and Request for Information (RFI) process for assigned projects
  • Maintain a working knowledge of standard processes and procedures
  • Contribute to progress updates and performance metrics for monthly briefings
  • Support management of project deliverables in Procore
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in performing duties
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals with whom interface is required
  • Ability to maintain complex project controls, filings, and corresponding contract administration required record keeping
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing



Candidate Specification:



  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience on infrastructure projects (transit or architectural) is required, and at least 3 out of the 5 years in the transit or construction industry is preferred
  • Working knowledge of engineering requirements, program policies and procedures including federal, state, and local transit administration regulations and policies
  • Proficient with applying scheduling software (i.e. Oracle Primavera)
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of tools
  • Knowledge of and experience using CADD software (MicroStation/Inroads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D) is preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license for the District of Columbia, Virginia, and/or Maryland is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical technical writing skills are required

The expected salary for this position is $89,000 - $109,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
