Overview

Brooklyn - Queens Electric Construction is seeking to hire an Operating Supervisor to join its Subsurface Construction section. The successful candidate for this position must demonstrate a positive work ethic and understand the importance of personal accountability as it relates to the mission and operation of the department.

Core Responsibilities
  • Brooklyn - Queens Electric Construction is seeking to hire an Operating Supervisor to join its Subsurface Construction section. The successful candidate for this position must demonstrate a positive work ethic and understand the importance of personal accountability as it relates to the mission and operation of the department.
  • Will enforce good housekeeping practices for vehicles, equipment and work areas, ensure that all work completed under his/her supervision is performed in a safe, reliable and efficient manner as established by operating procedures, corporate policy, engineering specifications and D.O.T rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, including proper storage, handling, transport and disposal of hazardous material and prompt reporting of violations or releases of hazardous material into the environment.
  • Plan, organize, schedule and assign personnel to optimize productivity.
  • Work with other organizations to ensure customer satisfaction and ensure that all accounting practices are adhered to.
  • Will be expected to promote a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edisons Corporate Values and be committed to delivering exemplary customer service.
  • Will have to work alongside of WRM, learn Logica tools and support mobile deployment. Interfaces with both outside and internal customers to provide efficient, economically sound, and timely services.
  • Responsibilities include duties in both Brooklyn and Queens.
  • Exercise independent judgment and render sound business and technical decisions, prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
  • Assign, coordinate and manage personnel to achieve maximum efficiency; monitor and support crew activities and ensure that all required reporting and documentation are completed correctly and in a timely fashion.
  • Interfaces with both outside and internal customers to provide efficient, economically sound, and timely services.
  • Perform other realted tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of related experience or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of related experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of related experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Must have strong leadership and managerial skills, while being able to initiate and champion changes that will successfully lead the department into the fast paced and ever changing environment in which we compete. Required
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Must have the ability to project manage, develop and implement schedules, and coordinate multiple tasks is a prerequisite for the position. Required
  • Must have Construction experience. Required
  • Must understand the DOT rules and regulations. Required
  • Must have a good understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety practices. Required
  • 2 years of supervisory experience. Preferred
  • Knowledge of subsurface construction including sheeting, shoring and trenching techniques and an understanding of the underground electric distribution system are highly preferred. Preferred
  • Digging/Trenching experience. Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Ability to respond to system emergencies
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
