The Transportation and Parking unit at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Bus Driver II position. About the Opportunity: This position will provide transportation services to the University community and its visitors. Assists in the development and design of routes to meet the various transportation needs of a major institution. Must also be able to transport mobility impaired users. Pay Grade: PG17 Work hours: Varies What you'll do:
- Arrange route schedules to meet daily University demands with supervisory personnel. Drives assigned bus on scheduled route and is responsible for quality service and riders' safety while on the bus.
- Arrange route schedules and trip tickets for campus tours, in-state charters and out-of-state charter trips. Responsible for delivering quality service and riders' safety while on the bus.
- Inspects assigned bus and is responsible to safe operating conditions of the bus. Maintains bus in a clean, orderly, and safe condition, including exterior and interior cleaning (interior cleaning requires the use of hazardous waste cleaning methods in certain cases), fueling/oil, touch-up paint, change and rotate tires, installs
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent. Training in public relations and hazardous materials cleaning is preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year driving experience required, preferably in congested and/or residential areas.
Preferred Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year experience:
- Experience dealing with the public
- Operating disability equipment
- Experience with bus maintenance (i.e., tires, chains, fluids)
- Experience in planning and executing road trips
- Experience in record keeping for logs and expense tracking
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be able to diffuse angry situations or choose non-admittance to bus to ensure rider safety; requires sound judgement and communication skills
- Must be able to properly plan routes and road trips to ensure arrival times or riders may not be able to attend meetings/events
- Choosing proper routes in congested areas and inclement weather to ensure riders safety
Physical Demands & Physical Coordination:

- Physical coordination to drive bus in congested/confined spaces
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Stooping and bending to clean bus
- Long periods of sitting with stress of concentrating on traffic/signs
Requirements
- CDL License
- Drug Test
- DOT Check
- CPR/first aid certification preferred
- Commercial driver's license training and certification. Required by state law
- Certification with disability services equipment preferred
