Overview

AmTrust is seeking a motivated accounting intern ready to learn about accounting for financial instruments, develop problem solving skills, and add value through the application of technology and process improvement. This role accelerates your learning and development by providing a strong foundation upon which to build your accounting career. You will assist with a wide range of duties that include analyzing data, preparing financial reports, and learning about the investment accounting life cycle, financial reporting, and working cross-functionally with various teams that support our process. You will gain exposure to best-in-class systems and processes, while working in dynamic and highly rewarding environment.



Responsibilities

    Develop a working knowledge the key systems that support the investment accounting and financial reporting process;
  • Assist with the monthly close activities and record accounting entries in the general ledger;
  • Validate general ledger balances to the investment accounting subsystem through the preparation of reconciliations - research and resolve variances, and document conclusions;
  • Review monthly par and bank reconciliations;
  • Liaise with AmTrust's third-party investment accounting provider;
  • Assist with the accounting for the Company's alternative investments;
  • Engage with stakeholders throughout the investment accounting and financial reporting process;
  • Research accounting questions under U.S. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles;
  • Provide support for internal and external audits;
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist with projects


Qualifications

  • Accounting or Finance major;
  • Basic understanding of financial and accounting principles;
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Experience with Excel;
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities

This role is hybrid out of our Jersey City, NJ office and is compensated at $25/hour.
