PIRATE program seeks to hire a Nurse or Medical Professional to assist with the planning, development, and implementation of a three-day, two-night summer program called Pirate Institute for Regional Aspiring Teachers and Educators. During the
PIRATE program, rising high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will participate in an immersive on-campus experience and learn about
ECU, Teacher Education programs, and student life. |
Job Duties |
The program dates are
June 18-20, 2025 and the licensed Nurse or Medical Professional will oversee the health and safety of 75-80 program participants and staff by dispensing medications, treating illness and injuries, and acting as a liaison to parents, program staff, and health providers. The Nurse or Medical Professional will process all documentation, medications and supplies related to program activities.
The Nurse or Medical Professional will provide care, first aid, dispense medication, and other medical care to program participants and staff as needed. The Nurse or Medical Professional is required to stay in an
ECU residence hall with program participants. Housing and meals will be provided during in-person training and throughout the duration of the program.
Job Duties Include
* Dispense medication, monitor participant medication schedules and provide attention to health needs.
* Act as a liaison between
PIRATE program staff and parents regarding health needs and relevant paperwork prior to participant arrival.
* Maintain first aid, over the counter medication and medical supply inventory by submitting request to order medical supplies and equipment as needed.
* Review and organize program participant health and special accommodation requests.
* Inform program staff of relevant health information or crisis situations.
* Ensure the health and safety of campers and staff.
* Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment area and equipment.
* Be on-duty/on-call overnight to provide care and medical intervention as needed.
* Communicate with program staff of any severe participant or staff illnesses or injuries.
* Maintain medical, medication and treatment logs.
* Create and/or maintain accident/incident reports, and any required documentation for the State of NC.
* Communicate with parents, local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies as needed and required.
* Contingent upon availability of funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other related medical profession. Practical training and experience as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant or related profession.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |
Current Nursing or Medical Professional License/Certification: RN,
APRN, or NP for the state of NC. First Aid and
CPR/
AED Certification. |
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
Experience with camps, summer programs and providing medical care in a residential setting. |
License or Certification Required by the Department |
