BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK: The intern will assist the Volunteer Program Assistant with various aspects of volunteer recruitment and management, grant writing, and in-kind donations. Tasks may include assisting with grant research, assisting with volunteer communication and onboarding, assisting with community outreach and surveys of volunteers, processing donations, updating information across databases, and other duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with Volunteer Orientation and ESL Tutor Training to include contacting potential volunteers, sending out reminders, and recording attendance.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate, up-to-date data across pertinent databases.
  • Prospecting for new grant opportunities and providing administrative support for the grant application process, including conducting research to identify potential grant opportunities and compiling necessary documentation for grant submissions.
  • Assist with client-tutor introductions including picking up clients and driving them to the office for the meeting, taking notes during the meeting, and updating tutor match spreadsheet accordingly.
  • Assist with outreach for donor drives and volunteer appreciation events as well as collection of volunteer survey feedback.
  • Process donations of goods and assist with the management of contributions in-kind including confirming orders for accuracy, logging inventory, organizing the stock room, and assisting with valuations for donations.
  • Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC's online Volunteer Dashboard.

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently pursuing an
undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate
Excellent verbal communication
skills
Organized, reliable, and
flexible
While a personal vehicle is not
required, it would be helpful on occasion.

This position is unpaid and reports
to the Volunteer Program Assistant.
