Description
** This position is based in Lansing and requires the incumbent to live in Lansing or the surrounding areas. **
Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Community Relations Coordinator implements regional councils, programs, events, and other outreach that heightens knowledge and support of donation and increases the number of people signing up on the Michigan Organ Donor Registry. This position serves as a key contact for regional council, volunteers, and assists with media opportunities (traditional and social).


Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and are not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:



  • Establish and oversee regional councils/volunteers to strengthen strategic engagement in the designated area and help drive the achievement of long-term regional objectives.
  • Establish and cultivate partnerships to increase the number of organ, eye, and tissue donors. These partnerships may include but are not limited to, presentations in schools, colleges, community organizations, healthcare organizations, and governmental entities.
  • Oversee community outreach in their designated area, including creating, planning, and implementing events to increase donor registrations.
  • In conjunction with the volunteer coordinator and communications coordinator, assist in the recruitment, coordination, and retention of volunteers for events, speaking engagements, and media
  • Assist with and seek out media opportunities, both traditional and social. May serve as a spokesperson for Gift of Life Michigan, in coordination with the communications manager and community outreach manager.
  • Visit local Secretary of State branch offices to support clerks and managers, and to promote the Donor Registry, in conjunction with the SOS branch liaison.
  • Work collaboratively and seamlessly with other Community Outreach department members on national donation observances and other community outreach projects and programs.
  • Contribute to Community Outreach department planning and strategy, including implementation and evaluation.
  • Serve as a point person for communications issues for other Gift of Life staff in their designated area.
  • Organize and retain a calendar of upcoming events and activities and archives documents of past activities.
  • Provide input on internal communications (material creation, intranet, newsletters), as needed.
  • Participate in key annual events, such as but not limited to LIFE Walk in Detroit and the Michigan Donor Family Gathering.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Required

  • Bachelor's degree, with course work in communications, business, social work, public health, or education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of community outreach work.


Preferred

  • Experience dealing with the public in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with media relations.
  • Bilingual, fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams, and other technology systems used in business operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
