Position Highlights

The Department of Finance, Eller College of Management, is seeking applicants for a part time Coordinator of Student Events and Communication. The selected applicant will develop, manage, and implement student events, activities, and communications that support the achievement of desired academic and career outcomes and allow students to engage with the stakeholders and communities relevant to the Department of Finance. The candidate will possess the ability to be a self-starter with proactive, professional communication and leadership talents and report to the Director of Graduate Programs, Finance.

The Department of Finance hosts events throughout the year that focus on student engagement, programs, and communities. This position will work closely with the Director of Graduate Programs, Faculty, and the Department Staff team to develop plans and strategies to schedule and host events and seminar series throughout the academic year. Department events could occur outside of standard business hours, including evening and weekend responsibilities. While the daily work schedule may be variable depending on the event schedule, the overall responsibilities of this position would still be completed within a twenty-hour work week. The Department of Finance is a highly cohesive unit, and a successful candidate will excel as a member of a team environment while being able to work independently.

Duties & Responsibilities

Student Events & Engagement

  • Oversee all aspects of events, including invitation, venue, scheduling, catering, facilities, rentals, decor, entertainment, permits, transportation, AV needs, videographer/photographer, staffing, publicly, guest services (trips, accommodation, etc.), and other relevant activities.
  • Coordinate the planning and facilitation of departmental student events including MSF Orientation, Meritage real estate student case competition, Finance seminar series, Finance Insight Series, ad hoc speaker events, and graduation breakfast.
  • Evaluate ongoing and new events and recommend improvements based on interpretation of outcomes; use innovation and creativity to develop new approaches, methods, or techniques to improve event success.
  • Coordinate event expense payments (via p-card, purchase requisitions, interdepartmental billings, etc.) in accordance with department and university policy and within department approved budget allocation.
  • Assist with the student, faculty, and alumni award process including scheduling interviews and ordering trophies and plaques.
  • Work with Finance program directors to execute program events and activities.
  • Serve as the Finance Department Staff Liaison to students in the CFA Club by assisting with room scheduling, speaker visits, sharing exam preparation resources, and working with the Faculty Advisor.
  • Serve on college events committee(s).

Communication

  • Write original copy for student communication materials such as letters, news articles, brochures, email nurturing/recruitment campaigns, and web pages following the Eller editorial style guide.
  • Work with the Eller MarComm team and program coordinators to identify ways to successfully promote the academic programs to increase student interest and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Eller MarComm team to create and post engaging social media content for students in the college's and department's channels.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships and interact effectively with all individuals, students, groups, and vendors within the University of Arizona and the community.
  • Maintain content on department webpages.
  • Work with supervisor, Eller Finance staff, and Eller MarComm team to update the annual Finance department newsletter.
  • Assist in scheduling student interviews for student profiles in the annual Finance department newsletter.
  • Coordinate the production and mailing of the annual newsletter to predetermined stakeholders and relevant parties.
  • Stay abreast of policies and procedures of University programs.
  • Perform related administrative and editorial duties.
  • Provide written output such as departmental communications, website content, news articles, brochure copy, presentations, and other communication tools.
  • Select and order imprinted promotional items for finance programs.
  • Coordinate with the Eller MarComm team on the creation of visual assets including photos and video.

Administrative Support

  • Coordinate textbook adoption, Student Course Surveys, syllabi collection and other academic administrative items as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor or Department Head.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in creating marketing materials and communication pieces written for publication.
  • Related work experience in an academic environment, especially higher education administration.
