Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Electrical Engineer with a focus in Instrumentation and Controls to work in our Pyrochemical Science department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) facility with every Friday off.

The engineer supports the development of cutting-edge technologies for the management and recycling of used nuclear fuels at the MFC. Engineering work includes the development of equipment and systems that span a range of processes, including an emphasis on molten salt-based electrochemical recycling, also known as pyroprocessing. Typical processes include high temperature furnaces for chemical separations deployed in MFC's non-radiological, radiological, and nuclear facilities. Unique engineering challenges include the development, deployment, and operation of electrical and I&C systems located in inert gloveboxes and remote hot cells.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to apply electrical engineering and instrumentation and control theories and principles to develop high temperature chemical processing research equipment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other engineers, planners, operations personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure the proper execution of testing activities.
  • Evaluate and assess system/equipment performance and history to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Establish and maintain configuration management of assigned system(s) while maintaining existing drawings and databases. Develop functional and operational requirements, system design descriptions, and test procedures for equipment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and other technical personnel in appropriate test procedures, maintenance, and laboratory activities.
  • Responsible for all electrical engineering aspects of project work, including identifying the equipment, services, space, personnel, work controls, etc., required to execute given projects.
  • You will report to the Department Manager

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 2: Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering or directly related field and 2 years of relevant experience. Master's in the same and 0 years of experience.
  • Level 3: Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering or directly related field and 5 years of relevant experience. Master's in the same and 2 years of relevant experience. PhD in the same and 2 years of relevant experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Experience:



  • Experience with high temperature furnaces, high temperature measurement systems (e.g. type B, C, or R/S thermocouples), and programmable logic controllers.
  • Experience with deployment of electrical and I&C systems in high radiation environments such as hotcells.
  • Experience designing, developing, and/or conducting experiments with electrical equipment.
  • Experience in working in DOE Hazard Category 1, 2, or 3 Nuclear Facilities.
  • Technical communication and writing skills to produce design documents, test procedures, technical reports, and technical presentations.



Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 $77,628.00- $159,228.00) / Level 3 $82,204.00 - $191,076.00. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
