The Executive Director of the Genentech Patient Foundation (GPF) sets the vision, mission, and overall direction and core policies for the Foundation in close partnership with the GPF Board of Directors (BOD) and the major "Donor" to GPF, the Genentech CEO. This role engages with other Genentech senior leaders to ensure the Foundation is seen as a best in class organization, positioning the Foundation to support patients through future and emerging changes to access in healthcare and across Genentech medicine lifecycles.

This Executive Director of GPF reports to the Vice President of Access Solutions & Patient Support while being accountable to the Board of Directors and Donor and manages the Patient Program Leads, Strategy Team, the Forecast and Workforce Planning Lead, and the Customer Audit Lead including a team of ~175 employees (FTEs and contractors) who work across both Access Solutions sites (Portland, OR and SSF) as well from remote locations around the US.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Partner with the Foundation BOD and Donor to establish and evolve key GPF policies that determine core patient groups supported; reflect emerging products and market priorities and align to Donor positions on patient access

  • Lead a high performing team to deliver the GPF mission while operating with effective enterprise stewardship for the donations that Genentech makes to fund our operations and deliver patient impact

  • Drive improved health impact outcomes for patients across the US who can be better served by the US Healthcare system and GPF specifically

  • Set annual and long-term budget and forecasts for anticipated patient volume, operating costs, and donation requirements

  • Ensure that accurate and sufficient documentation exists to meet legal requirements; provide authorized persons with the necessary insight into how the Board's business is conducted

  • Coach, lead, and drive the function and team to maintain subject matter expertise with operational excellence and compliance activities, while applying this expertise to effectively and efficiently assist Access Solutions' patients and their providers

  • Lead, plan, and execute Foundation Board of Director business including regular board meetings, ad hoc and periodic working groups, BOD bylaws, BOD onboarding and offboarding

  • Support completion and submission of CA and US tax filings as required for CA non-profits

  • Manage business operations and donations to satisfy all requirements of internal and external audits

  • Business travel is required to support business needs. The role can be based in either SSF or PDX and the leader should expect to be in person in each office on a regular basis

  • The Executive Director of GPF will be an active member of the Access Solutions and Patient Support LT (ASPS LT) and will occasionally need to lead efforts beyond the scope of GPF specifically (e.g. cross ASPS/CMG work products)

Recommended Skills and Experiences:

  • MBA, Masters in MHA, Public Policy, or an Advanced degree in a related field or Bachelor's degree with equivalent experience

  • 12+ years of professional industry experience in healthcare/healthcare reimbursement

  • 7+ years of people management experience

  • Leadership experience in one or more of the following areas: patient assistance programs, field management, sales/marketing, or customer service and operations

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, Genentech's overall business model

  • Strong understanding of managed care complexities, key players, and the regulatory landscape

  • Demonstrated experience leading large teams

  • Experience supporting and influencing cross-functional teams and initiatives including experience influencing key senior leader stakeholders across the enterprise

  • Strong customer orientation/focus

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location in California is $257,000-$477,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
