We are seeking a skilled VMware NSX Engineer with a strong background in Cisco networking technologies to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for implementing, configuring, and managing VMware NSX environments while ensuring seamless network virtualization and security across our infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with VMware NSX, Cisco Firepower, and Cisco routing and switching, along with a solid understanding of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), network automation, and advanced troubleshooting techniques. This role requires close collaboration with team members to design, deploy, and optimize NSX and Cisco solutions, enhancing overall network performance, scalability, and security.

Established in 2012 through a partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the State of Maryland and Montgomery County, the (NCCoE) is dedicated to furthering innovation through the rapid identification, integration and adoption of practical Cybersecurity solutions. The NCCoE is part of the NIST Information Technology Laboratory and operates in close collaboration with the Computer Security Division.



Responsibilities

    Design, implement, configure, and maintain VMware NSX environments to support network virtualization and security.
  • Manage and optimize Cisco Firepower, routing, and switching to ensure seamless network integration.
  • Develop and deploy SDN solutions and leverage network automation tools to streamline operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and security-related issues across virtual and physical infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance network performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Implement and maintain network security best practices, including micro-segmentation and firewall policies.
  • Stay up to date with the latest VMware NSX, Cisco networking, and SDN advancements to drive innovation within the organization.


Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant networking experience in administration, engineering, and troubleshooting in both virtual and physical environments.
  • Proven experience with VMware NSX, including deployment, configuration, and management.
  • Strong background in Cisco networking, including Firepower, routers, and switches.
  • Expertise in network troubleshooting, SDN, and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with network security concepts, firewalls, and micro-segmentation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable presenting and interacting with senior management to address concerns and update project progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and offer outside-the-box solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on high-quality outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills.

DESIRED:

  • Industry certifications such as VMware VCP-NV or Cisco CCNP.
  • Experience working in a federal environment, with knowledge of federal security and infrastructure guidelines and policies (preferred).
