SITKA Gear Footwear Designer

About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Footwear Designer to join our SITKA Gear team, acting as our product design lead for Hunt Field Performance, Hunt Everyday Performance, Hunt wader boots, and Fish footwear lines. This person will inspire, ideate, and create, leveraging creative problem-solving skills and innovative methods and materials to deliver compelling, disruptive product solutions for a variety of end uses.

This position will be located at our facility in Bozeman, Montana, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

Responsibilities:



  • Bring fresh, disruptive design thinking to SITKA's footwear line
  • Drive consumer insight curation and consumer-right product concepts and designs
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously across all footwear and wader boot product forms in a fast paced, time-sensitive environment
  • Manage designs through brand-right concept inspiration, color, form, detail, materials, technical drawings, and cost targets, ensuring deliverables are met in a timely manner
  • Lead all aspects of product concept generation with a Design for Manufacture focus, including 2D renderings, 3D files, and tech pack generation
  • Collaborate seamlessly with the broader cross functional team to drive the vision for SITKA Footwear
  • Actively engage in prototype and sample reviews/revisions in line with SITKA's Go To Market process and Footwear Key Events Calendar

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelors degree in related technical/engineering field with a minimum of 8 years footwear design experience in the outdoor industry
  • An infectious passion for design, footwear and the place where the two intersect with a demonstrated portfolio of work
  • A strong knowledge of materials, fabrications and production techniques pertaining to outdoor footwear
  • Expert with tools of footwear design, including renderings, 2D tech drawings, 3D forms and design programs
  • Experience in taking product from a sketch to reality, and the drive to cost engineer such products as necessary
  • Expert level shoe construction skill set with demonstrated advanced knowledge of footwear lasts, patterns, materials, tooling, basic chemical engineering, and various construction processes
  • Strong technical background and proficiency in Adobe Creative suite, and other, design tools
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence others
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and resourceful; Thrives in a highly dynamic and unstructured environment and able to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to travel domestically, and within Asia, up to 15%



To minimize disruption to the business, while supporting growth and development, Associates are expected to fulfill a minimum of 2 years in commitment before applying to another internal commitment. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved.
