The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.
Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, this position conducts specialized research, using judgement to adapt methods and techniques. Under direction, the
RTS II is responsible for managing surveillance or research studies, including design, analysis, and reporting. May supervise work of students and lower-level professionals.
Duties include:
- Performs various research and technical operations independently or as assigned, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
- Performs quantitative analyses with large databases with a high level of independence. Ensures accurate reporting of data.
- Helps coordinate data management systems; develops and documents data quality control procedures as appropriate.
- May assist in organizing and coordinating specialized research activities for a particular research project.
- Assist with Generates, compiles, and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Master's Degree in a relevant science (e.g., Masters in Public Health) plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.
- Experience with statistical software for complex survey data is required (i.e., SAS Survey Proc, SUDAAN or STATA).
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required.
- Knowledge of tobacco control surveillance and epidemiology and experience working with population-based survey data also required.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in Biostatistics or Epidemiology preferred.
- Experience with cohort and/or longitudinal data collection, maintenance, and analysis is preferred.
