What is the opportunity?

Serve as a key member of RBC's US Law Group advising RBC's U.S. Capital Markets platform across multiple product areas with a focus on the Firm's Central Funding Group repo and securities lending activities as well as providing supplementary support for RBC's Macro/Spread sales & trading business lines regarding the application and impact of: (i) Federal securities laws, including, but not limited to, the '33 Act, '34 Act, ' 40 Act" the Commodity Exchange Act; and (ii) regulation and oversight of Federal agencies (SEC, CFTC), SROs (FINRA) and exchanges.

What will you do?

  • Serve as counsel providing regulatory guidance and legal advice on all matters relating to Central Funding Group's repo (including sponsored repo and whole loan repo programs), securities lending and swap activities. Serve as primary U.S. CM counsel on the Firm's Treasury Clearing Mandate regulatory implementation efforts.
  • Serve as secondary counsel to RBCCM's Macro and Spread (Fixed Income) sales & trading businesses, including FX, Rates, credit, derivatives, high yield, distressed trading and electronic trading, and all related legal and regulatory matters. Advise on regulatory considerations and new initiatives.
  • Assist team of attorneys providing escalation support to Trade Documentation Group on various agreements, including ISDAs, CSAs, MRAs, GMRAs, MSFTA and MSLAs.
  • Perform major role in collaborating with front office, Litigation and control functions across the enterprise as needed regarding regulatory inquiries and special remediation efforts arising out of covered business lines.
  • Assist in managing external counsel relationships with respect to engagements deemed necessary in connection with the foregoing.
  • Provide coverage of Title VII/Swap Dealer matters including regulatory margin requirements for OTC derivatives.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 4-12 or more years of experience in practicing law as it applies to banking and financial services.
  • Juris Doctorate and member in good standing of bar of a U.S. state with at least an in-house New Jersey certification
  • Substantial knowledge of, and experience with, U.S. securities laws, rules and regulations and keen understanding of the requirements and roles of key functional partners and other internal stakeholders.

The expected salary range for this particular position is $200,000-275,000 depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
