Job Description:

The Tax Manager - Corporate Accounting plays a significant role in ownership of the tax strategy and compliance, minimization of tax risks, as well as oversight of the Company's tax function. This role will develop a strong rapport with external tax advisors. This role will provide occasional assistance on non-tax related items, as needed, including but not limited to, monthly financial reporting and annual company incentive process. This role will have visibility to the executive team, and work directly with the construction teams, legal team, other senior leadership personnel, external tax advisors and shareholders.

What you can expect to do:

  • Keep apprised of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company's operations, and to advise senior management on risks or opportunities.

  • Responsible for audits of federal and state income tax and other tax-related examinations.

  • Pursue refunds, credits and incentives as the company moves into new markets or new locations to maximize tax benefits to the company.

  • Coordinate all aspects of Ryan's tax obligations, including corporate, shareholder, joint venture, and sales tax strategy and compliance.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate filing of all income tax returns, overseeing the outsourced tax return advisor.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate filing of all sales tax and other state required filings.

  • Manage activities required for the timely and accurate preparation of the corporate annual and quarterly tax estimates including managing the outsourced tax advisor team, and further develop in-house expertise to streamline projections.

  • Review, edit and revise contractual and joint venture language to prevent and minimize tax risks and liabilities related to federal and multiple state, county, and city jurisdictions.

  • Identify tax processes and workpaper improvements.

  • Serve as a resource for all other tax related matters, including but not limited to:.

    • REIT tax requirements on certain Third-Party managed engagements

    • Entity dissolutions

    • Lease language

    • Termination agreements

    • 1099 Reporting

    • Payroll

    • Certain investor related tax matters

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Accounting required.

  • Public accounting experience and CPA preferred (or similar equivalent).

  • 5+ years related experience and strong leadership skills.

  • Significant individual/ partnership/corporate tax knowledge.

  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to collaborate well with stakeholders and communicate the costs, benefits and impacts of tax or financial reporting matters.

  • Resourceful and independently capable of seeking information, solving conceptual problems, corralling resources, and delivering results in challenging situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and improve processes and organizational design.

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, influence, and communicate with all key stakeholders.

  • Highly motivated, independent, self-starter and willing to take on multiple responsibilities at once.

  • Strong communication skills relative to explanation of details and concept.

  • Ability to influence decision making.

Eligibility

Positions require verification of employment eligibility to work in the U.S.

Compensation:

The annual base pay is $120,000 - $155,000. The base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission and/or an incentive program.
