Job Summary

Provides lead work direction to non-law enforcement personnel providing safety patrol and general assistance to the college community and visitors. Maintains order, security, and safety at the college by foot, bicycle, and cart patrol. Enforcement of district rules and regulations, provides a variety of assistance to individuals using the college facilities, works with a diverse population of administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public. Responds to calls for service, issues parking citations and warnings, documents and completes reports, locks and unlocks campus buildings, performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

30% - Provide direction, information, and assistance to college personnel and campus users as dictated; assists the college police officers and department members in enforcing policies and regulations of the college and the laws of the State of Arizona

30% - Responds to campus incidents and emergencies; administers first aid as needed; patrols campus grounds and parking lots; issues traffic warnings and/or citations; opens and secures buildings, classrooms and offices; monitors college equipment and property in routine patrols; utilizes police communication equipment; may perform dispatch duties; maintains confidentiality of work-related information and material

20% - Prepares accurate and complete various reports (written and/or computerized); reports unsafe working conditions and behavior; and takes reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices

10% - Provides training and orientation to newly assigned personnel

10% - Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, four years of related public safety or security experience. There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements outlined in law or regulation.

Special Requirements, Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License.

Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting with the AZDPS, and may be required to submit to periodic comprehensive background checks.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Two (2) or more years of experience working in an educational institution within the public safety/security department
  2. Two (2) or more years of experience responding to critical and emergency situations
  3. Two (2) or more years of experience with handheld radios and radio communication
  4. Two (2) or more years of experience enforcing policies and procedures in the workplace
  5. Two (2) or more years of computer skills/experience which include Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite
  6. Two (2) or more years of experience in customer service
  7. Two (2) or more years of experience providing supervision to employees


Special Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Working Conditions: Rotating shift work is performed in the field with moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as blood or other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or uncertain environment); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures.
