Position Summary |
THIS IS A TIME-LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 2 YEARS.
The Tamayo Laboratory seeks a research technician to contribute to our research program in bacterial pathogenesis. The Research Technician will support the overall research of the lab by assisting with lab management tasks such as managing supplies and reagents and maintaining records. They will contribute to ongoing research by assisting with mouse studies, molecular biology experiments, and other microbiology protocols. As directed, the Research Technician will conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and collaborate with other lab members to advance the lab's research goals. All Tamayo Lab members are expected to conduct their work with the highest integrity and to maintain a collegial working environment. |

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Candidates must possess basic knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology. Skills may include practice with aseptic technique and a general understanding of standard molecular biology techniques such as bacterial culture,
PCR, nucleic acid isolation, and the ability to prepare standard media, reagents, and chemical solutions. The candidate must be able to effectively record data and be able to perform basic mathematical calculations. The candidate must be willing to work with lab animals and tissue and fecal samples. The candidate must have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as attention to detail and organizational skills. They must work well as part of the team and develop the ability to work independently with guidance from the PI and senior scientific leadership. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience working in a biomedical and/or molecular biology laboratory. Able to follow procedures to work safely in a laboratory setting, including with infectious agents, able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong written and oral communication skills. High standards of integrity, conscientiousness, and responsibility. Strong academic record in relevant coursework. Experience with mouse breeding and working with laboratory mice. Experience working with viral infections in cell culture and in animal models. Track record of advancing a research project. |
