NATURE OF WORK
Responsible for the site health & safety programs. The EHS Specialist acts as a resource in the qualification process of employees, conducts auditing and participates in audits records and systems. They will ensure all continuous improvement programs, environmental reporting, incident reporting and documentation are in compliance with applicable regulations, policies and environmental compliance. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESThe essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following: Personal and plant environmental and safety program development, which complies with federal, state, and local laws. Ensures that the safety program is properly managed, this includes enhancing manuals, plans and records. Ensure documents, including procedures, HECPs and programs meet all requirements and are updated regularly. Ensure environmental program compliance with all federal, state and local laws. All reports and permits are to be completed before due dates. Lead the activities of the Safety Challenge Team (SCT) and assist the team members in their efforts to improve the safety of all employees. Work with different regulatory agencies to establish working relationships. Acts as an emergency coordinator. Process Safety Team Member. Assists with DHA/PHA and procedure development. Backup lead for EHS/PSM meeting and follows up on action items. Ensures wastewater effluents meet local and state wastewater discharge standards (IF applicable) Responsible for promotion of recycling programs of solid wastes, paper, residue, fluorescent lamp, etc. Ensure outside agency inspections are efficient; documentation is available for the inspector. RCRA Hazardous Waste Responsibilities - Waste determination, profiling, labels, inspection, arranging for disposal shipment. Work with Distribution Supervisor (DOT Certified) for proper shipment paperwork and paperwork retention. Responsible for the processing of monthly LOTO Verification forms and inspections. Assist with 1st, 2nd & 3rd party safety, environmental and food safety audits. Assistance may be required as well, as it pertains to safety/training. Assists and coordinates Continuous Improvement Projects & Hazard Recognition. Maintains a solid awareness of location's business plans and goals. Assists, if necessary, the Leadership Team on selection and utilization of tools to prioritize business improvement projects. Regular attendance is an essential function for this position. Compliance with all Company policies is required. Responsible for adherence to all quality systems including ISO and Food Safety, with an understanding of the site's Quality Policy and procedures. ISO 14001 Auditor and Core Process Owner. Ensure adherence to all management systems including ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Process Safety, and Food Safety, with an understanding of our Quality and Environmental Policies and procedures. Responsible that these policies and procedures are implemented throughout the organization and all related activities under the position's jurisdiction. Practice and promote safety, quality and sanitation by following plant policies, GMP's and procedures. Compliance with these policies, procedures and GMP's is required. In addition, you have an obligation to yourself, the company and your fellow employees to report any safety hazards observed including failure of others to follow safety and sanitation procedures Promote Core Values (Safety and Health, Environmental Stewardship, Highest Ethical Behavior, Respect for People) Other functions as required (non-essential functions). SCOPE OF POSITIONThis position reports directly to the EHS Manager. Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of this position at any time. Must be willing to work varied hours. WORKING CONDITIONSThis position operates in an office/production/plant environment. Some travel may be required.
