This attorney would be a member of the ERISA Legal group, which group advises the firm's various businesses in connection with products and services offered to ERISA plans and individual retirement accounts. Areas of coverage include the firm's fiduciary and advisory businesses. The group also provides assistance on fiduciary matters related to the firm's internal benefit plans.

Job Description - Specific Responsibilities



  • Business Transactions - Advise on ERISA Title I and Internal Revenue Code considerations across various lines of business. Advise on existing and new services and product offerings across institutional and retail channels for retirement investors. Negotiate investment management agreements, trading documents and other contracts involving plan assets. Participate in client onboarding and implementation.
  • QPAM Compliance - Support the firm's qualified professional asset manager (QPAM) compliance program.
  • In-House Plans - Provide legal support with respect to fiduciary matters relating to in-house benefit plans; advise on changes to ERISA rules impacting benefit plan fiduciaries.
  • Participation in Industry Groups - Attend ERISA industry group meetings and calls; participate and provide input on comment letters and other advocacy efforts.
  • Legislative/Regulatory Reform - Advise on changes in ERISA and IRC laws and regulations that have impact on the firm's various lines of business.
  • News and Updates - Provide assistance with relevant ERISA-related news and updates for internal stakeholder groups; prepare summaries and assist with circulation of materials to keep relevant stakeholders informed.
  • Training/Education - Prepare internal ERISA training materials and memos; assist with training and educational sessions.


Basic Qualifications



  • Lawyer with a minimum of four years of experience preferred (would also consider candidates with a different experience profile).
  • Candidate must demonstrate a strong grounding in the fiduciary and prohibited transaction rules of ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code.


In addition to the qualifications above, the successful candidate should enjoy the process of collaborating with both internal and external clients in order to solve challenging and interesting issues and be able to effectively prioritize competing priorities. Strategic thinking, excellent judgment and strong communication skills are key attributes as well.

Salary Range

The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $170000-$270000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
