Feed Mill Manager

Job Summary

Directs the operations of the Mill through the oversight of leaders. Responsible for the maintenance and operations of the Feed Mill, including safety, preventive maintenance, housekeeping, ingredient receiving, feed manufacturing, feed loadout and delivery, quality control, and optimizing production and maintenance costs. Enforces all safety procedures and processes to maintain a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manages a team of entry to established level individual contributors and/or supervisors. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful delivery of department goals. Responsible for HR activities such as hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, team member development, scheduling, etc. Enforces and meaningfully contributes to the development of systems, policies, and procedures. Participates in strategic planning for the function.

2. Develops and implements policies and best practices that increase efficiency, reduce cost, ensure quality, and ensure compliance with standards, contractual obligations, and regulations.

3. Forecasts and plan for efficient and effective production. Identifies and implements optimizations.

4. Provides daily feedback to ensure all deliveries and production schedules are met. Identifies training, resource, or coaching opportunities to ensure all team duties are performed in a safe and efficient manner.

5. Develops and oversees the execution of Preventative Maintenance programs.

6. Oversees and optimizes the feed manufacturing Quality Control program. Ensures all products meet standards including accurate feed formulations, inputting changes to feed formulas, utilization of correct ingredients, inventory management, proper equipment maintenance, etc.

7. Monitors and oversees ingredient inventories and receiving operations.

8. Responsible for ensuring company assets and inventory are safe and secure.

9. Ensures proper, timely, and accurate delivery to all farms.

10. Prepares reports on key performance indicators to identify and implement improvements.

11. Prepares an annual budget with the assistance of live operations accounting. Develops and implements plans to improve efficiency and reduce cost.

Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)

* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

* 6+ years of relevant experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

* 2+ years of leadership experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, coach, support, and motivate a team

* Ample experience in a Feed Mill setting with a proven understanding of the operations of a

modern automated Feed Mill and the maintenance that is required to continue the feed production process

* Strong understanding of safety and regulatory compliance standards in manufacturing

* Sound communication, presentation, and collaboration skills with the ability to interact at all levels

* Solid project management skills with the ability to impact results

* Effective technology and Microsoft Suite skills (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

* Highly skilled at resource management, budget management, delegation, and prioritizing

deliverables

* Solid financial acumen and ability to oversee capital expenditure projects

* Ability to identify and implement process improvements

* Ability to work flexible hours as needed

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent

* Experience in a union environment

Physical Demands

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

* Work will be performed in a variety of conditions including a climate-controlled office

environment(s) and in a manufacturing plant environment with varying conditions, such as cold areas, wet areas, hot areas, dusty areas, chemicals, and other site conditions. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in the manufacturing environment.

* The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection.

* Occasional travel may be required.
