Overview

SMS Data Products Group, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Storage and Virtualization Architect for our 83rd NOS storage position at Langley, AFB, VA. This position provides architectural design recommendations and implementation plans for optimizing the enterprise storage service in support of the US Air Force's Centers of Excellences construct driving operation, maintenance, and innovation of storage suites, virtualized environments, and services for the AF enterprise.

Responsibilities

    Provide expert recommendations to senior Govt. staff for upgrade and migration support of NSX technology, vSphere, VMware vCenter, ESX/ESXi hosts, as well as other components required to support upgrade/migration strategy and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Plan, implement, document, optimize and provide knowledge transfer for new technology deployments including the implementation of vCenter Operations Manager, NSX technology, Virtual Configuration Manager, and View.
  • Populate and maintain asset and configuration management documents, databases and information repositories.
  • Provide remote and on-site support for enterprise storage and network changes with regards to strategy and remediation.
  • Create, capture, and/or distribute both embedded and encoded knowledge and ensure its availability for current and future users.
  • Provide knowledge transfer and mentorship for Cyber Operators with regards to the relationships between roles, technologies, formal procedures, and emergent routines.
  • Provide knowledge transfer with regards to documentation, best practices, books, manuals, databases etc. to local Cyber Operators.
  • Utilize customer trouble ticket and incident/problem resolution applications, databases, and various data repositories as required.


Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible virtualization/storage implementation and/or engineering support with experience in mid-to-large data center environments, preferably in a DoD environment within the last 10 years, 6 of which directly related to AF cyberspace
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in:
    • Maintenance, installation, and updates of virtualization and storage
    • Applying strict policy/process to the accountability of IT systems
    • Demonstrated diagnostics and troubleshooting abilities
    • Demonstrated knowledge in risk reduction, Hot/Warm site DR architecture, high availability, planning for disaster situations
    • Knowledge of data communications, local-area networking, wide-area networking, routers, and switches
  • Minimum of 3-years of experience working directly with VMware virtualization and Dell/EMC storage and/or storage networking hardware and related technologies on both Unclassified and Classified networks.
  • Experience with VMware virtualization technologies, storage management, capacity planning, performance management, change management, backup and recovery, archiving, business continuity planning, availability management, and the integration and co-existence of these.
  • Experience with VNX, SRM, and Avamar
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple agencies while prioritizing critical/high priority taskings.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills with the ability to discuss highly technical subjects with various skill/knowledge levels intelligently and effectively.

Clearance: Active DoD Secret required with ability to upgrade to Top Secret clearance preferred.
