Founded in 1909 by Milton and Catherine Hershey, Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a tuition-free private home and school for 2,200 pre-K through 12th grade students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since its' founding, the lives of almost 12,000 children have had lives transformed through high-quality career-focused education and a positive, nurturing home life. And the school is growing to serve more students.

MHS is seeking dynamic English and Language Arts Teachers (ELA) to provide high quality engaging, rigorous, and relevant instruction aligned with state and national standards so students can achieve grade level or above benchmarks and reach their full potential. MHS's teachers prepare and deliver lessons and assessments to differentiate instruction, while extensively utilizing data to analyze outcomes and drive achievement for student success.

MHS Teachers are deeply committed to remediating students to perform well which requires extensive cross-functional collaboration with a whole child approach to student development. They are also required to schedule and complete additional duties to their teaching schedules. To help ensure success, the school provides well-resourced classrooms, state-of-the-art technology, small class sizes, planning periods, and extensive professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English Secondary Education. Advanced degree a plus.
  • English 7-12 certification required. Reading or Special Ed certifications a plus.
  • Experience teaching using a literacy rich approach with demonstrated success in differentiating instruction for successful student outcomes.
  • Exceptional skills in building student relationships & classroom management required.
  • Demonstrated success as a high performing multi-disciplinary team member.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills are required.
  • Coaching or other extra-curricular experience desired. Candidates must be "all in" and eager to engage with students beyond the classroom and school day.
  • Candidates much demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all staff are considered role models for students.
