Responsibilities

Located in Whitehall, Michigan, the Development Tooling CNC Engineer position will be located in the Howmet Research Center and is responsible for development and implementation of CNC programming into the development tooling lab to meet high quality tool standards. The major emphasis is in accurate tool pathing, high quality surface finishes, and meeting committed tool schedules.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Interprets customer part and tooling specifications provided.
  • Develop and maintain CNC programs optimized to meet customer design criteria and manufacturing cadence to ensure highest quality of manufactured components.
  • Evaluate and utilize optimal cutting tools based on materials required and features being cut.
  • Maintain programing documentation as well as revision control.
  • Troubleshoot and improve operations including but not limited to fixturing issues, CNC program and/or parameter issues and expendable tooling issues until problem is resolved.
  • Support capital projects initiatives for new equipment, working with customer and machine manufactures for the proper solution.
  • Assist in cost estimating effort for quoting of new tools.
  • Provide technical support to tooling lab personnel.
  • Potentially creating 3D solid CAD models using Siemens NX to meet customer specifications.
  • Coordinates with other tool designers, CNC programmers or Die Makers to develop manufacturing plan.
  • Meets deadlines for scheduled tooling
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:



  • A Bachelor's degree in an engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years CNC programming experience of precision tooling.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution in the following disciplines preferred: Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Technology or related fields.
  • Fluency with CAD/CAM software, preferably with Siemens NX.
  • Sound understanding of engineering drafting principles
  • Ability to collaborate with designers and die makers regarding design for manufacturing
