LSC consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College.

Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager of Media Relations manages media, inquires, prepares press releases, assists marketing with collateral pieces, monitors and posts to social media, and attends LSC Board of Trustee meetings and other LSC events (such as groundbreaking ceremonies). Develops and implements communication programs supporting LSC's strategic plan.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Writes and edits media/press releases, public information, and internal communications and publications and web content (including direct mail and advertising)
  2. Assists as needed in the execution of media relations functions including media inquiries, and crisis and issues responses. Maintains efficiency and diplomacy at all times
  3. Monitors, researches and analyzes daily news for regional & industry content to provide daily reports & updates to LSC leadership
  4. Creates, executes, and provides support for publicity plans and events production for LSC overall, and individual LSC college campuses and departments
  5. Acts as liaison between creative services team and internal/external customers as needed
  6. Creates and maintains a variety of databases, including but not limited to media contacts, distribution lists, and LSC news article archives; Develops and maintains graphics for use in media releases
  7. Researches and updates LSC statistics, surveys, editorial calendars, and media coverage of various topics
  8. Attend LSC Board of Trustee meetings and other LSC events as required
  9. Assist Marketing Department in preparing collateral pieces (print ads, etc.)
  10. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of creating & executing email blasts, electronic newsletters, file merges and similar technology tools
  • Ability to use Internet search tools effectively
  • Strong verbal and writing communication skills to effectively convey complex content
  • Ability to adapt messages and writing styles across multiple media outlets
  • Ability to effectively reach diverse audiences, including but not limited to high school students, academic experts & business people
  • Understanding of journalism and how reporters work
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, and libraries, College-owned vehicles. This requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience must include at least 3 years in a supervisory role

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Salary

Hiring salary range is from $63,014 to $72,466.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
