As a Scientist, you will lead the design and execution of scientific studies for vaccine technical programs as they progress initial development phases to clinical evaluation, technology transfer and process performance qualification at the chosen commercial site. You will leverage your advanced background to collaborate with high performing scientists and drive novel vaccine product understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently lead planning, design, execution, and interpretation of development projects suited to clinical phases, following the Quality by Design framework.
  • Contribute to and drive solutions for mRNA delivery, enhancing RNA and protein vaccine understanding.
  • Design and execute experiments for improved mRNA delivery systems, alongside advanced analytical characterization.
  • Analyze and interpret results, prepare conclusions, and communicate recommendations for subsequent steps to relevant parties.
  • Make sound scientific/technical and business decisions based on a balance of data, analysis and experience.
  • Author technical sections of internal and external reports with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare and present scientific data within Technical R&D (TRD) including Technical Development Team and may represent GSK externally (conferences, etc.)
  • Use innovative thinking to solve technical challenges, delivering tangible benefits to the organization and patients.
  • Employ scientific expertise and experience to influence technical decisions.
  • Function effectively as a core team member on multiple concurrent projects and lead small projects
  • Cultivate strong relationships in the area of technical development, both internally and externally, to enhance new method and technology advancement.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD degree in Bio/Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bio/Chemistry, or related scientific field or MSc with 4+ years of industry experience or BSc with +6 years of industry experience.
  • At least one year of experience in discovery or early development of mRNA formulations.
  • One or more years of experience with mRNA delivery and liposome/nanoparticle formulations and/or protein formulation.
  • One or more years of experience utilizing analytical characterization techniques (UV-Vis, fluorescence, SLS/DLS, particle characterization, FTIR, IR, DSC, chromatography, etc).
  • Six months or more experience with large scale mRNA LNP manufacturing processes (mixing processes, TFF, filtration etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Good understanding of biopharm/vaccine development process.
  • Experience with automation, liquid handler use and scripting.
  • Ability to deal with complexity, strong problem-solving and self-directional abilities.
  • Proven ability to independently lead, design, conduct, and analyze experiments.
  • Experience mentoring and leading junior scientists in experimental design, data analysis, and data presentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal and external relationships that drive product understanding.
