Pay Range: $25-$35hr

BASIC PURPOSE
The Music Instructor provides a nurturing and safe environment for individuals to embark on a
journey of music and instrument learning. With a focus on elementary students and youth, the
instructor conducts group lessons under the guidance of Corps Officers and the Education Center
Supervisor. This ensures that students have a secure and loving space to discover the joys of music.
The Education Center, which is a part of The Salvation Army / Oakland Chinatown Corps, operates
as an all-embracing outreach program, welcoming people from diverse cultures, ethnicities, and
age groups in the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teach drum group lessons (around 6 students).
2. Prepare lesson plans for the music program.
3. It is a plus if able to play additional instruments (e.g., piano, guitar) or lead a
student worship band.
4. Track student progress and conduct skill assessments.
5. Prepare students for performances and concerts.
6. Foster an engaging learning environment for musical development.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIREMENTS
1. Prefer having experience in teaching music or other related courses to elementary to high
school students.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Patience and resilience in handling challenging students.
4. Strong organizational skills.
5. Motivate students to learn.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
1. The candidate either be currently enrolled in a music major at an educational institution or in music education or a closely related field.
2. Age 18 or above.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or
sometimes continuous basis.
2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
3. Ability to reach overhead.
4. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. for administrative positions.
5. Ability to operate a computer.
6. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
7. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Telephone, Copier, Printer.
