Together, these units provide vital networking services and user support for CJIS, ensuring law enforcement professionals have the tools and systems necessary to carry out their work effectively.

Typical Day:

A typical day involves supervising, coordinating, and/or performing network hardware and operating system additions and changes, including investigating, analyzing, recommending, configuring, installing, and testing new network hardware and software. You'll provide direct support for daily network operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network by utilizing network measurement hardware and software, while also physically checking and testing hardware devices at the logical level in conjunction with communication protocols. The role requires participation in the design and implementation of new network infrastructure for voice and data communication, as well as managing systems integration. Proficiency in virtualization technologies and network administration is essential as you perform systems management, integration, and provide technical consultation, support, and training to IT staff. Additionally, you'll be responsible for diagnosing complex communication problems, ensuring systems are up to date with approved patches, composing SOPs, and addressing interoperability issues across storage and backup systems.

Tasks:



  • Apply Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) routing and switching principles to practical solutions.
  • Perform multi-level troubleshooting and root-cause problem solving.
  • Ability to configure, maintain, and upgrade LAN/WAN design and topology.
  • Install/configure LAN/WAN hardware and maintain wiring closets and nomenclature.
  • Manage Cisco and other hardware, including consumer-grade routers and switches.
  • Monitor with standard network management and packet analysis tools.
  • Plan, implement, and administer perimeter security and firewalling.
  • Evaluate new technologies and make design recommendations for a more efficient and cost-effective network infrastructure.



Required Qualifications:



  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related scientific or technical discipline. CompTIA Security + Certification is equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience: Three to five years of experience with firewall configuration and load balancing Education/Experience substitutions - Associate Degree and 5 years of experience or HS and 7 years of experience
  • Understands network protocols including TCP/IP, User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and other common protocols
  • Have expert knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)/Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) routing protocol
  • Understands all aspects of Virtual Private Network (VPN) design and configurations
  • Have expert knowledge of TCP/IP and troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Have expert level troubleshooting and root-cause problem solving
  • Experience working in an Agile organization using Scrum, Extreme Programming (XP), Kanban, and SAFe



Desired Qualification:



  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Enterprise Infrastructure preferred.
