Overview
We are seeking a Test Engineer with a strong background in acoustics and/or electrical engineering to join our team. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role based in our lab in Costa Mesa, CA, working closely with Acoustics (AE), Mechanical (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE), and other members of the Test Engineering organization. The ideal candidate will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) through daily, hands-on involvement in product testing, troubleshooting, validation, and by designing and building automated test systems for transducers, speaker systems, and power amplifiers. This role is also critical in supporting our global contract manufacturers. Base Salary Range 87,000 - 105,000 The above reflects the pay range that QSC reasonably expects to pay for this role. This pay range also depends on various factors such as job duties and requirements, relevant experience and skills and geographic location. In addition to the base salary range, QSC offers a comprehensive package including but not limited to health benefits, 401K or Roth retirement plans and generous time off. Responsibilities
Design, procure, build, and automate test equipment for speakers, transducers, and amplifier assemblies in a fast-paced product development environment.
- Analyze test data, identify defects, determine root causes, and drive timely solutions in collaboration with AE and EE teams.
- Build prototype test setups during the product design phase to evaluate and improve early speaker, transducer, and audio power amplifier designs.
- Deliver end-to-end test solutions-from concept to high-volume production-and provide ongoing support throughout the product lifecycle.
- Plan and execute new product and supplier qualifications for transducers and speaker systems.
- Develop test automation software to interface with devices under test (DUTs) and test instrumentation.
- Provide test support to overseas contract manufacturers (CMs) and troubleshoot production line issues.
- Remotely access test systems, diagnose problems with CMs, and coordinate with internal teams for resolution.
- Collaborate with the Test Engineering team across audio, video, and control product lines.
- Full-time onsite role; approximately 70% lab presence required in a week.
- Travel to Mexico, China, or other global CM locations as needed for manufacturing test support, line bring-up, and new product launches.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field (Acoustics Engineering is a plus).
- 3+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing and testing, preferably in audio, video, or control systems.
- Minimum 2 years of strong software development experience in Python, C#, or LabVIEW.
- Ability to read and understand system block diagrams, PCBA layouts, and schematics.
- Comprehensive understanding of audio domain measurements low harmonics, high harmonics, response, phase, polarity, and impedance measurements
- Strong commitment to operational excellence in engineering labs.
- Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to follow procedures and apply critical thinking to solve problems.
- Proven experience scaling up prototypes or experimental test setups for both product qualification and manufacturing.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
