Posting Summary |
The Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies is seeking one Postdoctoral Associate who specializes in mixed methods research and facilitating research-practice partnerships. The Associate position will be awarded for a one-year period beginning in June 2025. Very strong preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in educational research, theory, and practice, but other specialties might be considered.
The Postdoctoral Associate must be committed to using research as tool for driving school, community-based, advocacy initiatives and achieving equity. The Associate will primarily work on research and program evaluations that support the efforts in the metropolitan area to more effectively use data to support educational change and improved youth outcomes. Experience with place-based research, particularly with a local research-practice partnership, would be very advantageous, as would familiarity with the design and maintenance of databases containing both qualitative and quantitative data. Familiarity with continuous improvement/improvement science models would be very helpful. Practical experience working in an urban context is desirable. Familiarity with bi-lingual research and practice is essential.
The Associate may work on projects related to high-quality instruction, critical or transformative education programs and practices, the high school experience in urban schools, and collective impact initiatives. The Associate may oversee and conduct interviews and focus groups, engage in participant observation (e.g., of meetings, classrooms, and professional development sessions), manage transcriptions, archive data, code and analyze findings, design compelling visuals, conduct literature reviews, develop and administer surveys, collect and analyze educational records with quantitative methods, and draft academic manuscripts and public-facing reports, briefs, and infographics that explain the key findings of the Center's research and its relevance to stakeholders and the broader public. The Associate will also coordinate convenings and meetings with communities, practitioners, advocates, policymakers, and researchers to support research dissemination and translation of research to practice.
