Position Summary:
A national leader in public STEM education, the New Jersey Institute
of Technology (NJIT) is one of three R1 universities in New Jersey and is
located in Newark, the largest city in the state and a central hub within the
New York City metropolitan area. NJIT's Department of Humanities and Social
Sciences invites applications for Adjunct Instructors to teach engineering
ethics. The department's courses in engineering ethics are designed to ensure
the success of all undergraduate students at a top-tier public polytechnic
academic institution. Candidates are expected to have an appreciation for the
full range of engineering disciplines, as well as computer and data science,
applied science, business management, and architecture and design.
Essential Functions:
The Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences is an interdisciplinary community of researchers
and educators that encourages state-of-the-art pedagogy consistent with the
aims of a technology-intensive university. Candidates should be able to
demonstrate prior experience teaching engineering ethics or related courses at
the university level and documented success through course evaluations, peer
assessment, or other means. Candidates must abide by the university's core
values, which include excellence, integrity, civility, social responsibility,
diversity, and communication.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Candidates should have a Master's degree in
applied philosophy, science and technology studies, engineering management, safety science, legal studies, or a closely related field. PhD preferred.
- Key criteria for selection will
include experience teaching at the university level and evidence of success
working with a student population that reflects the diversity of our
metropolitan region.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites
may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the
university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically
preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the rate for this position is $2591 per credit hour. (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
