Job Summary

The Caltech Controller's Office seeks a motivated, analytical accounting professional to support various teams, including Property Services, Plant Fund Accounting, Payroll & Benefits Accounting, and General Accounting. Reporting to the Associate Controller, and working closely with Payroll, Finance, HR, and other campus stakeholders, the Staff Accountant will play an integral role in the timely and accurate accounting and reporting of various financial transactions.

Essential Job Duties
  • Reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Preparation and entry of journal entries in Oracle.
  • Perform research into variances and trends.
  • Assistance with various audit requests.
  • Preparation of various tax returns, including for sales and use tax and property taxes.
  • Various research and ad hoc reporting as assigned.
  • Coordinate various property and sales & use tax reporting and payments.
  • Assist with annual College Exemption filings.
  • Assist with fixed asset reporting.
  • Prepare various ad hoc reports.
  • Coordinate month-end close activities.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1 year of experience in accounting.
  • High integrity and ethics; high sense of personal responsibility and accountability for achieving outcomes; strong focus on quality.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to map out processes and document procedures effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Excel pivot tables and advanced functions.
  • Experience with Oracle.

Hiring Range

$68,640 - $73,800 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
