Description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a motivated Senior Project Construction Technician to provide project support for power generation construction. The position is based out of our Pittsburgh, PA office and will predominantly work in the PA, VA, MD, WV and OH regions at various power generation client project sites on landfill and impoundment closure projects.

Experience with construction quality control (CQC) or construction quality assurance (CQA) for the installation of geosynthetic liner systems at landfills is required. Individual will be responsible for observing construction activities, completing field testing of soils/earthwork, inspecting geosynthetic liner installation and completing daily reports to monitor and document Construction Activities.

The individual will act as the lead CQC/CQA representative on project sites and will be responsible for interacting with the project Owner, project Contractor, third party testing laboratories, and GAI engineers to verify construction is being completed in accordance with the project plans and specifications. Individual will be responsible for managing and training other GAI construction technicians utilized for the project.

Essential Duties Include:



  • Perform routine inspections, checks, tests, and sampling procedures for power generation construction inspection.
  • Applicants must be willing to travel to the regions serviced, with infrequent project support at sites further away. Lodging (hotel) will be provided. This position is primarily field-oriented and location will vary by project support requirements.
  • Inspection areas include geosynthetic liner systems for environmental containment (landfills and above ground storage tanks), concrete testing and soils testing.
  • Follow quality control requirements and well-defined criteria using inspection tools and devices. Perform audits to ensure standards of quality are maintained.
  • Accurately document the results of the inspections, testing, and quality control checks.
  • Coordinate calibration of test equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Assist in the writing and updating of inspection procedures, protocols, and checklists.
  • Interpret prints, drawings, and schematics.
  • Assist in writing certification reports to document construction activities at the conclusion of the project
  • Interpret project specifications and be familiar with schedule and frequency of required samples and tests.
  • OSHA 10-hour Training is desired, but not required. Certification may be scheduled at time of hiring.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in landfill construction CQC/CQA projects including geomembrane installation, protective cover placement above geomembranes, installation of drainage structures, and installation of sediment ponds.
  • Certified in geosynthetic placement from a program such as the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) - Inspector Certification Program or equivalent, certification is desired but not required. Certification may be scheduled at time of hiring.
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Testing Technician - Grade 1 certification is desired but not required. Certification may be scheduled at time of hiring.
  • Proof of certifications will need to be provided.


Travel Requirements:



  • 95% to job sites

Technical Responsibilities



  • Responsibilities involve performing and overseeing field monitoring on various multisite/phase construction projects of moderate to large scale, scope, and/or complexity, including placement of concrete, earthwork, roadway paving, buildings, structures, foundations, and building materials. Generates and substantiates reports and documentation regarding construction, materials, integration, equipment, and operations.
