Job Summary: The Electromyography (EMG) Assistant technically assists physician with Electromyography testing in an inpatient and outpatient setting; moves EMG machines to point of service, and is responsible for preparing patients for testing by warming patients. Works with Neurologists, Neurology Fellows, Residents, Nurses, Medical Students, clinic staff, and patients. Prepares schedule for following day testing, obtains necessary information for physicians to conduct testing, and enters reports accurately into EMR. Uses judgment and initiative to accomplish tasks and anticipate needs. Will frequently be assigned to help front desk check in and out patients for the clinic. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. No experience required. Minimum six months of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate. Able to accept direction; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: None required. Certified EMG Technologist preferred.
