Research Technologist III - Department of Pediatrics and Department of Physiology

Position Description:

Purpose

We seek a motivated and highly organized Research Technologist III to manage and support the ongoing projects within the collaborative laboratories of Dr. Lu Han in the Department of Pediatrics and Dr. Ziqing Liu in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This position involves fulfilling a lab management role and performing key experimental tasks to support cardiovascular research focused on regenerative strategies to better understand human heart disease.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring smooth daily lab operations, including maintaining equipment, managing mouse colonies, and collaborating with team members to carry out molecular and histology experiments.

Primary Functions

  • Oversee daily lab operations for both Dr. Han's and Dr. Liu's labs, including ordering supplies, autoclaving, and maintaining lab equipment.
  • Manage and maintain the mouse colony, set up breeding protocols, and conduct genotyping (e.g., tail clips, PCR, gel electrophoresis).
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct basic molecular and histological experiments, including RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, plasmid extraction, immunostaining, animal dissection, and cryosectioning.
  • Participate in regular lab meetings with Principal Investigators and research staff to discuss experimental progress, interpret data, and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Support the development of new research methodologies and improve existing lab procedures.
  • Ensure quality control of laboratory results, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and provide guidance or training to other lab personnel as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lab records, including experimental protocols and data.

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Experience with animal handling, particularly for genotyping and colony management, is preferred.

Experience with molecular biology techniques, histology, and immunohistochemical staining is preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Knowledge of research safety procedures and laboratory best practices.

Ability to conduct experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, and interpret data.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, and resource management.



Preferred Schedule:




Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 3 years

Preferred Experience: Animal managing, molecular biology techniques, histological techniques

Field: Cardiovascular-related background is preferred
