Department Summary

The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the HSC College of Pharmacy (HSCCP) will contribute to the development of the educational, research, and service programs of the HSCCP. The faculty member will report to the Chair of the Department. The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will provide expertise in teaching the foundational science aspects of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum such as physiology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutics. The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will also deliver the teaching in the MS in Drug Discovery and Development program. The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will also conduct research and provide teaching and training to students and trainees through teaching in graduate educational programs (MS and PhD) and training in research.

Position Overview

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the HSC College of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth, Texas. UNTHSC is a 33-acre graduate school located in the city's Cultural District with a local economic impact of $500+ million annually. There are six Colleges on the UNTHSC Campus: Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences, College of Public Health, College of Health Professions, College of Pharmacy, and the College of Nursing. The HSC College of Pharmacy is the first pharmacy school in Texas located on an academic health science center campus.
The researchers can have a strong interdisciplinary partnership with other departments at UNTHSC and the robust pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and clinical trial industry partners present in the DFW area. We can make healthcare better through teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Grant-writing proficiency: Track record of securing extramural funding from agencies such as the NIH or NSF, with experience managing research budgets
Publication record: High-impact publications in pharmacology journals, demonstrating contributions to advancing therapeutic strategies
Lab management: Capacity to lead an independent research program while mentoring graduate students, postdocs, and professional (PharmD) students
Curriculum development: Skill in designing courses that integrate research insights, case studies, and clinical applications
Assessment design: Ability to create evaluations that measure theoretical knowledge, experimental skills, and critical thinking

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications:
1. A track record of scholarly excellence as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or funding awards in the field of pharmacology and/or vision science.
2. Teaching experience in a graduate or professional program.

Job Duties:

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the HSCCP of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) at Fort Worth is seeking to hire an Assistant/Associate Professor to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Works under the leadership of the Chair to implement and improve the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum as it relates to the basic pharmaceutical sciences components of professional pharmacy education.

* Works under the leadership of the Chair to implement and improve the Master of Science (MS) and certificate programs in Drug Discovery and Development curriculum as it relates to the basic pharmaceutical sciences components of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

* Contributes to the graduate program discipline in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacotherapy within the MS and PhD in Biomedical Sciences degree programs.

* Contributes to a culture of scholarly excellence within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the North Texas Eye Research Institute through research that ensures that the faculty member remains on the cutting edge of their chosen areas of research and scholarly activity relevant to the future of pharmacy.

* Contributes to a culture within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences that works in close cooperation with faculty of other Colleges at UNTHSC to provide interprofessional education that meets the needs of the population of Texas for effective partnerships in health and therapy.

* Contributes to service efforts that enhance the quality of pharmacy and graduate education and research in Texas and nationwide.
