Job Overview

The College of Medicine, Department of Operations and Finance is seeking a full-time Payroll Specialist to process payroll checks on a mid-month and monthly basis to all University of Cincinnati Physicians faculty practice plan employees. Investigate and resolve payroll related issues and answer payroll questions.

Essential Functions

  • Communicate with HR regarding new hires, terminations, employee compensation changes, benefits, status (i.e., deductions, rates, address changes, garnishments) and other pay-related issues.
  • Communicate with departments regarding payroll for each pay period, payroll worksheets and percentages of time worked for each employee.
  • Approve or enter changes into the Paycor payroll system.
  • Download and import payroll worksheets into the Paycor payroll system.
  • Audit the prepost before processing payrolls to verify employees are paid correctly and totals match payroll spreadsheets provided by departments.
  • Perform calculations such as retroactive pay, unpaid time off, vacation payouts, prorated salaries for new hires/terminations.
  • Audit pension contributions and election amounts .
  • Audit for taxing issues, benefits, imputed income, 401a and voluntary pension caps as well as other miscellaneous audits.
  • Verify remote work approval, research and set-up appropriate taxing locations for withholdings for employees.
  • Assist manager as needed with special projects and advise in resolving payroll issues.
  • Assist Payroll Manager as needed with special projects and help in resolving payroll issues.
  • Must have good oral communication skills, and attention to detail is crucial.
  • Effectively uses time to meet deadlines.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated on the job.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

One (1) year of payroll experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Bachelor's degree is ideal.
  • Previous experience with Paycor Payroll processing.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Office environment/no specific unusual physical or environmental demands.
