UMass Memorial Medical Center is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Cardiac Surgery Service Line Manager to oversee and coordinate the delivery of exceptional clinical care within our cardiac surgery service line. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care are provided to all patients through the effective coordination of clinical services, while promoting seamless communication between physicians, staff, and patients. The role also involves strategic leadership to foster growth and development within the service line.

About Us:

We are the largest academic medical center in Central Massachusetts and the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center. Our team serves a diverse patient population and offers advanced cardiac surgery services, including open and endovascular aortic repair, coronary revascularization, structural heart interventions, and mechanical circulatory support, including a destination VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) program. We provide high-quality care across a broad spectrum of perioperative cardiac surgery, from high-complexity tertiary and quaternary care services to routine surgical cases. We perform approximately 400 cases annually.

Our Advanced Practice Provider team is integral to patient care, serving as the first point of contact and providing care in the ICU, post-operative floor, and outpatient clinic. Our surgically trained APPs also provide operative first assisting and perform endoscopic vein harvest in all cases, ensuring seamless, multidisciplinary care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the cardiac surgery service line to ensure the highest standard of clinical care is consistently delivered.

  • Collaborate with physicians, residents, referring physicians, and healthcare professionals to enhance service quality and patient outcomes.

  • Serve as a liaison among physicians, residents, referring physicians, affiliated hospitals, nurses, patients, and their families to ensure a patient-centered approach.

  • Monitor and manage the performance of clinical teams, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring best practices are followed.

  • Foster a collaborative environment and open communication to facilitate problem-solving and improve patient care.

  • Act as a key member of the leadership team in developing and executing strategies to grow and expand the cardiac surgery service line.

  • Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and protocols to optimize service delivery and operational efficiency.

  • Collaborate with physician and administrative leadership to drive the growth, development, and improvement of the service line, balancing administrative duties with direct patient care responsibilities.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to safety standards while working to enhance patient satisfaction and outcomes.

  • Provide support and mentorship to staff, ensuring professional development and engagement within the service line.

  • Participate in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports related to the service line's activities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing and/or graduate of Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience and an additional minimum of two years' experience in a management or clinical education role required.

  • Strong knowledge of cardiac surgery practices, standards, and regulations.

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire, motivate, and direct clinical teams.

  • Ability to manage complex clinical and administrative tasks, balancing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
