The Legal Transcriptionist provides high-quality documents, transcribed from audio recordings.

With over 400 employees the Office of the Public Defender is the largest of the five indigent defense offices in Maricopa County. We are also one of the largest public defender offices in the country. Our office provides innovative, client-centered legal representation in the full range of criminal matters to clients unable to afford legal counsel. We Require

  • Two years of experience performing specialized clerical duties, which include transcription or secretarial experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for one year of the required experience

We Also Value

  • Experience working in the legal field with legal terminology

  • Experience in Start/Stop Universal Software

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Job Contributions

  • Listens to recorded witness interviews and transcribes them into written documents

  • Reviews documents for completeness and typographical and formatting errors

  • Communicates with attorneys and legal staff to process transcription requests in a timely manner

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily occurs remotely upon successful completion of the initial training

  • Regular exposure to traumatic subject matter (crime scenes, accidents, etc.)

  • A position that requires speed and 100% accuracy
