Job Summary: The Security Operations Center (SOC) Operator will be responsible for shift work in the SOC, a 24/7 operation center, which provides security support to all CenterPoint Energy properties, employees, and other stakeholders. The SOC is the primary point of contact for all security issues and incidents. Using various technical security systems and monitoring software, the SOC Operator is responsible for the detection, triage, and alerting of routine and critical security incidents. The SOC Operator will be responsible for the escalation of critical security incidents and may assist with incident management. Essential Functions:
- Answer security-related inquires and intake reports of security/safety issues in a calm, reassuring, and professional manner.
- Monitor and operate various technical security systems including access control, video management, life-safety, phone, radio, dispatch, and mass-notification systems to detect and facilitate the response to potential security/safety issues.
- Provide appropriate escalation and prepare clear and concise communications to security management and other stakeholders during incidents.
- Document incident details and track security resources.
- Dispatch and coordinate response to incidents. Responses may be to medical emergencies, burglar, fire, duress alarms or other events or needs.
- Provide liaison with law enforcement, fire department, or other emergency response organizations related to emergencies.
- Maintain familiarity with SOC procedures, layouts of covered facilities, security programs and associated policies.
- Partner with various facility stakeholders to resolve security incidents and improve the security posture of the site.
- Conduct preliminary incident investigations and provide assistance to specialists in all investigations.
- Uses security systems and logs to confirm authorization of individuals requesting access to secured areas of company property. Remotely grant access, as appropriate.
- Remain flexible to an ever-changing environment and adapt well to different situations.
- Assist with other corporate security assignments, as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Education:

High school degree or equivalency required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience working in a Corporate Security Operations Center, 911 dispatch center, alarm monitoring center, or similar environment is preferred. Previous experience writing reports and emails using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word use is required. Previous experience and comfortability using Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Teams) is required; Previous experience with video management and/or incident reporting systems is preferred. Native or expert knowledge of English language for speaking, writing, and reading is required. Knowledge of other languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus. Friendly, outgoing demeanor with previous customer service experience is preferred. Competencies:
