The Position

Join Genentech in South San Francisco as a Principal SSHE Business Partner, and play a crucial role in our Security, Safety, Health, and Environment (SSHE) department. Our mission is to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of our people, environment, and operations within a collaborative and innovative culture. You'll be an integral part of safeguarding Genentech's operational integrity while upholding our commitment to proactive prevention and problem-solving.

In this dynamic position, you will partner with senior leaders in Research and Early Development (gRED) and Site Services (SS) to spearhead strategic projects, ensure compliance, and cultivate a robust safety culture. Your responsibilities will include engaging in design and construction efforts, proactively identifying SSHE-related risks and opportunities, and assessing trends and performance. You will be accountable for recommending and implementing sustainable solutions to address complex challenges, all while supporting gRED's business objectives and the development of our future campus.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the practical application of multidisciplinary SSHE programs, particularly for complex biotech facility design and construction. You must excel in strategic thinking and stakeholder engagement, effectively integrating SSHE initiatives into our business operations. Collaborating with gRED researchers, Site Services partners, and SSHE colleagues, you will develop solutions that align with building principles and scientific workflows while ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and Roche SHE standards. Your expertise in SSHE practices and procedures, especially in in vitro and in vivo lab settings, will support efficient workflows and maintain safety.

Additionally, this role will include a joint appointment with the gRED Space Strategy team, providing you with a unique opportunity to further influence and shape the future of our campus.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, engineering, science or related field with 12-15 years of experience, or a no degree with 15 years of experience. At least 12 years of relevant work experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, research/educational setting, construction, or high tech industries.

  • Preferred Degree: MS

  • Preferred Certification(s): Certified Safety Professional, Certified Safety Manager, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and/or Project Management Professional. Practical experience with Agile/Lean/Six Sigma business process improvement methodology, including a belt certification, is desired.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and industry standards, including sound laboratory and vivarium practices. Experience working with diverse types of outsourced partners to ensure positive business outcomes and compliance is also preferred.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.

  • This position is not eligible for relocation and is located at the South San Francisco site.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $138,500.00 - $257,100.00 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
