Job Title: Quantitative Analyst

Job Duties: Sprague Resources GP, LLC in Portsmouth, NH is seeking a Quantitative Analyst to support the Sprague quantitative analysis team in various Sprague areas, such as Natural Gas, Electricity, Ref Products, Renewables, Business Development, and various other departments and business operations. The individual will apply advanced-level knowledge of quantitative and mathematic principles and concepts, as well as experience with quantitative financial modeling and statistical models to develop quantitative analysis models and solutions in the fast-evolving energy sector.



  • Interface, support, and collaborate with departments, including Business Operations and Analytics, IT, Business Analysis, Asset Management, Sales, Scheduling, Supply, Risk, Business Development, and senior management.
  • Learn, maintain, and support quantitative analysis processes and models.
  • Support the quantitative team on various projects, daily work activities, and ad-hoc requests.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to capture business requirements and assumptions.
  • Create, improve, and deploy robust quantitative analysis models, tools, solutions and applications for various energy business use cases with the goal of optimizing both Sprague's and customers' value.
  • Research, provide, and develop innovative ideas and proposals to improve profitability, customer added value, advance business growth, and development.
  • Keep version control, document, and create repositories of quantitative models, functions, and processes.
  • Identify and act upon areas for improvements, risks, and opportunities for the business.
  • Work on various quantitative analysis projects and tasks on planned and ad-hoc basis.
  • Clarify and capture business requirements, assumptions, and data to help prepare realistic and effective quantitative models and solutions.
  • Create, improve, and deploy robust quantitative analysis, models, and tools in the areas of: risk management, energy products services structuring and pricing, deal analytics, portfolio management, asset management and optimization, asset dispatch and load forecasting, hedging, financial and business planning, energy logistics, and customized energy solutions.
  • Provide energy management services optimization models and processes.
  • Present, in understandable way, model methodologies, assumptions, and recommendations to audiences of various backgrounds.
  • Come up with creative quantitative analysis solutions to complex business problems and practically and effectively implement.
  • Support the business in developing modern solutions including AI, on various platforms.
  • Assist with mentoring other junior quantitative analyst(s), when needed



This position has no personnel supervisory or managerial responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in Mathematical Finance, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, plus at least three (3) months of experience in the job offered or in any related position(s) in which the required experience was gained.

Qualified applicants must also have demonstrable proficiency, skill, experience, and knowledge with the following:



  1. At least one (1) of the following programming environments: Matlab, R, or Python as applied to quantitative modeling
  2. Utilizing PowerBI to pull data using PowerQuery, model relationships, and write DAX formulas/measures
  3. SQL database and SQL servers
  4. Demonstrated experience in qualitative financial modeling and quantitative research



No travel; Hybrid work environment with work from home (WFH) benefit available on some days
