Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000

Position Summary:

The Director of Quality is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a best-in-class Quality Management System (QMS) that supports organizational excellence and customer satisfaction. This role oversees all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, compliance, and continuous improvement across the full product lifecycle-from design through delivery. The Director will partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, and senior leadership to drive strategic initiatives, uphold regulatory standards, and ensure product reliability and safety in alignment with ISO, customer, and internal expectations.

This position will be based in Darien, WI and travel to Beloit, WI as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and champion the company-wide quality vision, policies, and goals in alignment with long-term strategic objectives
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging trends in quality and compliance, including sustainability and digital transformation in quality systems
  • Establish annual quality plans, budgets, and resource requirements; monitor progress and course correct as needed

Quality Management Systems & Compliance

  • Own and continuously improve the QMS in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and industry-specific standards (e.g., AS9100, IATF 16949)
  • Lead the company through successful internal and external audits; maintain certification readiness at all times
  • Develop and maintain document control procedures, risk management plans, and regulatory reporting frameworks
  • Ensure effective implementation and follow-through of corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes

Manufacturing & Product Quality

  • Embed quality at every stage of the product lifecycle-from design inputs and process validation to final inspection and delivery
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to implement robust design for manufacturability (DFM), process capability (Cp/Cpk), and error-proofing (poka-yoke) strategies
  • Oversee quality inspections, control plans, metrology calibration, and material testing protocols
  • Drive root cause investigations, implement 8D/A3 problem-solving methodology, and reduce internal and external defect rates (DPPM, RTY)

Customer Experience & Supplier Quality

  • Serve as the executive escalation point for critical customer quality issues; lead resolution teams to deliver timely, sustainable solutions
  • Develop and lead Voice of the Customer (VoC) programs to capture insights and ensure quality expectations are met or exceeded
  • Oversee the supplier qualification, score carding, and development process; work collaboratively with Procurement to improve incoming quality performance
  • Deploy Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), PPAP, and incoming inspection strategies

Quality Performance Metrics & Reporting

  • Define and report key quality metrics, including First Pass Yield (FPY), Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), audit scores, and customer satisfaction (NPS)
  • Lead monthly Quality Management Reviews and present findings to senior leadership with actionable insights and trend analysis
  • Leverage statistical analysis tools and dashboards to monitor quality trends and drive predictive analytics
  • All other duties assigned by management

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations Management, or related discipline
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive quality experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling QMS in a manufacturing or heavy industrial setting
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and change management efforts
  • Deep knowledge of ISO, AS9100, IATF 16949, or similar regulatory frameworks
  • Experience leading internal/external audits and working with third-party certification bodies
  • Proficiency in quality engineering tools (FMEA, MSA, SPC, Gage R&R, control plans, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity with ERP and digital quality platforms (e.g., SAP, IQS, ETQ, Minitab)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification strongly preferred
  • Experience implementing digital quality management systems (e.g., eQMS)
  • Background in data center equipment, electrical enclosures, or power generation products
  • Expertise in design transfer and quality assurance in vertically integrated operations
