ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager | Washington, DC / Tysons, VA

VHB is seeking a Senior Transit & Rail Project Manager with deep expertise in heavy civil infrastructure to lead the delivery of high-impact transit and rail projects across the Mid-Atlantic. This role offers the opportunity to manage the conceptual, preliminary, and final design of complex projects including light rail transit, bus rapid transit, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and freight rail improvements.

Responsibilities:

    Lead planning and delivery of major transit and rail infrastructure projects with a focus on heavy civil design and system integration
  • Manage all phases of project development in a client facing role-scoping, budgeting, design oversight, stakeholder engagement, and construction coordination
  • Manage project controls (scope, schedule, budget, quality)
  • Drive the execution of multi-disciplinary teams in both design-bid-build and design-build project environments
  • Build strong client relationships through effective communication, quality delivery, and problem-solving
  • Lead strategic pursuits and business development initiatives to grow the transit and rail practice
  • Mentor and develop junior staff and promote technical excellence across teams with robust QA/QC protocols
  • Represent VHB at industry events and regional forums, elevating the firm's presence and brand

Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep technical knowledge of heavy civil construction, including track, grade crossings, stations, and structural systems
  • Experience with conceptual through final design for complex transit and rail projects
  • Proficient in multi-disciplinary coordination and system integration across engineering disciplines
  • Skilled in project management tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale teams and complex infrastructure scopes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • P.E. license required
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in transit and rail engineering, with at least 5 years in a Project Manager role
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex public infrastructure projects

The base salary range for this position is $168,000 - $212,000 for the Washington, DC location. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal equity, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
