Provide support for planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of the Year One Curriculum; staff support for the Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum, the Year One Curriculum Director, and Year One unit coordinators including Doctoring; write and edit curricular materials; coordinate curricular activities. d


Examples of Duties

Administration70%

A. Coordinate development and delivery of curriculum documents, resources, and materials including, but not limited to, calendars, tutor group lists, student schedules, tutor guides, self-assessment questions, mini cases, exam schedules and logistics, list serves, and doctoring materials-schedules, including CCX, activity logs, DVD reviews; recruit clinicians for clinical sessions; support MPEE registration, correspondence, evaluation, and presentations; coordinate CARE including online materials, registration, database, correspondence, and evaluations; meet requests for information and resource material related to curriculum activities, including research; responsible for the Year One Curriculum online courses and website; oversee preparation of exam review materials; support CCX scheduling and logistics.

B. Serve as liaison between the Senior Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum, the Year One Curriculum Director, unit coordinators, faculty, students, department chairs, Information Resources, Office of Student Affairs, volunteer physicians, PSP team, the Academy, SIU HealthCare, DxR Development Group, the P.A. Program, and the Nursing Program. Provide liaison between the Year One Curriculum and its delivery with other curricular years, including supporting special initiatives (patient safety, population health, etc.). Responsible for distribution of SPC materials to year one members. Familiarize faculty with their new roles in the curriculum.

C. Coordinate and manage the logistics for a variety of daily curricular activities, meetings, workshops, retreats, and other events.

D. Scheduling student clinical field experiences. Coordinate volunteer faculty appointments for the area physicians.

E. Work with the Year One Curriculum Director to plan and implement student evaluations; to assist with the collection, preparation, distribution, and archiving of student progress data; to design, collect, and summarize student and faculty program evaluations.

F. Manage the OEC-Carbondale office, including making OEC-C purchase requests, signing as fiscal officer for all routine purchases and standardized patient needs. Coordinate with IRC on Y1 Student Technology Fee requests.

G. Fixed Asset Delegate, OEC-C.

H. Manage the Professional Development Lab and help other staff assigned to it.

Academic Activities 20%

A. Assist faculty in preparation and delivery of case presentations and other curriculum material for first-year medical students (Problem-Based Learning Modules, mini cases,

assessment cases).

B.Develop, monitor, and maintain a system of data management for curriculum and program evaluation to be used for research purposes.

C.Assist in design and production of instruments (assessments, questionnaires, etc.) to be used in research.

Service 10%

A. Year One Curriculum Committee (recorder) and relevant subcommittees (Doctoring and Student Progress).

B. Other School of Medicine committees/service: OEC staff meetings, Year Director/Coordinator meetings, tutor meetings, unit meetings.

C. SIU School of Medicine A/P of the Quarter Selection Committee.

D. Assist the Y1 Curriculum Director and the Senior Associate Dean for Education and Curriculum in preparing reports, including reports for LCME.

E.Representation of the School of Medicine to its varied publics, as assigned.


Qualifications

Master's Degree in English, Education, or related field; professional experience in education, medical education, or related areas at an institution of higher learning; knowledge of instructional design; knowledge of educational theory and methodology; excellent organizational skills and problem solving ability; ability to work with a wide variety of basic science and clinical faculty; excellent oral and written communication skills; editing skills.
