The expected hiring range for this position is:

$30.45-$39.37.

About the Role:
The Fermilab Infrastructure Services Division seeks highly motivated Roads and Grounds Crew Chief to join the Roads & Grounds Group. Under direct supervision, you will perform tasks to maintain Fermilab site roads, grounds and related facilities.

What your day-to-day as the Groundskeeper Crew Chief at Fermilab will look like:

  • Coordinating, organizing and performing snow removal operations and overseeing snow removal crews as the "first call responder".
  • Overseeing and performing landscape maintenance activities including but not limited to mowing, trimming, pruning, plant care, pesticide application, fertilizing.
  • Overseeing and participating in landscaping repairs which may require hauling, spreading, and seeding of topsoil, and installation of erosion control materials.
  • Overseeing and participating in execution of tree removal with the use of chain saws, chippers, aerial lifts and stump grinders.
  • Overseeing and participating in prairie and woodland restoration activities including prescribed fire management, and the control of invasive plants using herbicides.
  • Overseeing and participating in the maintenance of the underground storm water drainage systems, including cleaning, repairing, and replacing culverts, catch basins, and drainage tiles.
  • Overseeing and participating in maintaining the Fermilab owned bison and assist with wildlife capture and control activities
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising manager.
  • Abiding by and being responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Possesses a valid Commercial Driver's License A or B without air brake restriction.
  • Possesses an Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator's license.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Certificate.
  • Has completed OSHA 30 Hr. Construction training.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office) which include Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Ability to work independently and harmoniously in a group setting.
  • Ability to abide by all environment, safety and health regulations.
  • Willingness to respect, understand and value individual differences that embody laboratory principles of diversity and inclusion.

Work Arrangement:

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
