JOB SUMMARY
Provide design and CAD support and direction for all areas of the company. Functions as technical liaison between the company and its customers, providing engineering solutions and concepts that are cost effective and capitalize on the processes and materials provided by the company. Supports projects that require design solutions from concept, to planning through prototype stage and then transfers function to production. Provides engineering solutions for software, hardware, and mechanical issues.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create detailed technical drawings, plans, and models using CAD software like Rhino 8, Auto Desk Suite, Artios CAD, and Engview. Also manage and maintain these drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Work closely with sales, manufacturing leaders, and other project stakeholders to understand design requirements and translate them into accurate CAD drawings.
- Identify and resolve design issues, ensuring the final drawings are technically sound and meet project specifications.
- A strong understanding of corrugated and vinyl engineering principles, drafting standards, and industry best practices is essential.
- Strong understanding of the steel rule die-making process to ensure designs are successful when produced.
- Mentoring and training of junior CAD operators or providing technical guidance to other team members.
- Assist with project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Travel as necessary to work with customers and sales personnel for presentations and prototyping.
CRITICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Must be capable of building, training and supervising a team of CAD operators and interfacing that department with sales, production, and the customers.
- Must understand the manufacturing processes and be able to integrate process improvements.
- Must be conversant in CAD/CAM applications and Design Software.
- Must be able to establish process controls for software and hardware testing.
- Must be able to represent the company on critical customer issues and technical support to sales staff.
- Must be able to produce fully functioned specifications for the construction of production parts, documentation, and technical publications.
- Must be able to supervise the engineering of concepts for digitally and conventionally printed jobs, along with the integration of tooling and CAM.
- Must be able to understand and direct the implementation of statistical quality control, ISO and QS for establishing a formal quality control and cost containment system.
- Must be able to develop and utilize concrete metrics that allow for the long-range growth of the organization.
- Must be a good communicator and able to interface with customers and sales from management level to R&D.
- Must be a good listener and willing to provide what the customer is looking for in design and concept development.
