Position summary:

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for assisting in The Branch Group's weekly payroll cycle. This position will be Full-Time and will report to the Payroll Operations Specialist.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in processing payroll weekly for over 1,000 multi-state employees.

  • Monitors or enters hours and expenses turned in by field/office employees for approval and reasonableness, and investigates any unusual items. Ensures that all payroll data entered into our Accounting System is timely and accurate

  • Ensures that paychecks are distributed according to strict deadlines.

  • Processes extra payroll cycles from various internal sources for things such as missed hours, special compensation, bonuses, etc., as instructed.

  • Enters employee withholding tax information into the system based on withholding tax forms -Federal withholding (W-4) and state withholding forms (VA-4, NC-4, WV/IT-104 and SC W-4)

  • Helps with the deductions and payments of court orders such as child support orders.

  • Provide payroll customer support to all employees by responding to appropriate payroll questions in a timely fashion

  • Responds to requests from Human Resources, Controllers, and Sr. Management.

  • Assists with the BranchPay employee portal. These responsibilities include assisting in initial login and setup for new employees, unlocking locked accounts, granting access to timecards and entering approvers

  • Assists with setting up and maintaining employee direct deposit accounts

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

  • Familiarity with professional and technical terminology of construction industry as relates to payroll

  • Establishes a climate of helpfulness and trust

  • Supports decision made by the Group

  • Is willing to "speak up" when something doesn't look right

  • Operates as the primary payroll backup when the Payroll Operations Specialist is on vacation or completing a time-consuming annual tasks (ex: preparing year end W-2s, processing ESOP checks, etc).

Required Qualifications/Education:

  • 3 years of broad payroll experience is preferred

  • Having knowledge of payroll tax laws, forms, and principles is preferred

  • Does not discuss or disclose confidential information

  • Proficient capability with Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Exhibit strong problem-solving, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Must be customer service oriented

  • Strong people skills; ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds

  • Must have the ability to work within deadlines and prioritize tasks in order of importance

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers/scanners.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position will be full-time with the anticipated weekly hours of 40 hours.

Travel

Travel is not anticipated with this role.
