Under minimal supervision, evaluates and settles travel and accident claims of modest to complex exposure (including fatalities) by investigating losses, interpreting coverage, and reporting obtained information in a timely and efficient manner, while maintaining adequate production levels. When required, assists supervisor with review of reports submitted by junior adjusters. Conducts training and mentors new hires. Claim types handled, included but not limited to: Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Trip Cancellation/Interruption, Collision Damage Waiver, Out of Country Medical Expense, Lost/Delayed Luggage.
- Interprets and makes decisions using independent judgment on more complex and unusual policy coverages and determines if coverages apply to claims submitted.
- Establish reserves, using independent judgment and expertise and authorizes payments within scope of authority, settling claims in the most cost effective manner.
- Investigates claims by interviewing insureds, claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, and by comparing claim information with evidence.
- Settles claims by determining client's coverages, client's instructions and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
- Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
- When required, supports Team Manager by reviewing and approving payments and/or denial letters of junior adjusters.
- When required, assists Team Manager with special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
- Expected to assist junior adjusters.
- Recommends litigation when appropriate and presents evidence at legal proceedings; producing reports and other documents as evidence.
- Analyzes claims activities and prepares reports for clients, carriers and/or management.
- Maintains expected case load while meeting or exceeding departmental and company production and quality standards
- Upholds the Crawford Code of Conduct.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- Technical claims investigations/settling experience with 4-8 years experience in a Claims or similar organization.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
- Effective advanced interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external clients.
- Highly organized and self-directed.
- Flexible and able to change plans quickly.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple programs, products, tasks, and projects.
- Ability to handle a variety of situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Customer service oriented.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the travel insurance industry
- Familiarity with Supplementary Health Insurance Plans
- Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
- Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
- Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
- Industry Designations: AIC, AINS, and/or CPCU preferred
- License Requirements: Maintain active independent adjuster licenses in all states that require licensing, including New York and Hawaii.
